How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?

There is no switch that makes ChatGPT recommend your business, and no guarantee that it will. Assistants answer from information they can find and read on your site and across the web. Start with accurate business details, clear service pages, useful answers and credible mentions, then check what customers actually see.

Make the underlying information useful

Think about the information someone would need to recommend you responsibly. What do you do, where do you work, and which customers can you help?

For example, a dental office page should plainly distinguish the services it offers from requests it cannot handle. An attractive page that never explains the service leaves those basic questions unanswered.

Work through this checklist

  1. Keep business details consistent. Use the same name, address, phone number and hours on your site and business listings. Correct old information where you find it.
  2. Create one plain page per service. Explain what the service involves, where you provide it and whom it is for. Avoid making readers interpret a list of slogans.
  3. Answer real customer questions in text. Use questions from calls and enquiries. Put the answers on your site where someone can read them, rather than leaving the explanation inside a graphic.
  4. Build reviews on Google and relevant trade directories. Make asking for an honest review part of finishing the work. Keep the details on those profiles current too.
  5. Seek credible local or industry mentions. Look for genuine opportunities through organizations, suppliers or publications connected to your work. Give them accurate information about your business.
  6. Check monthly using customer questions. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the questions a prospective customer would ask. Include the service and location when those matter, then note which businesses they name.

Keep a simple record of the question, date, assistant and answer. Check any description of your business against the facts. Treat a recommendation as an observation, not a permanent position you now own.

Keep the technical claims in proportion

Google's own guidance says no special markup, files or AI-specific optimization are needed for AI Overviews or AI Mode; standard SEO best practices apply.

That guidance concerns Google's features. It is not a promise about ChatGPT. Likewise, llms.txt is an unofficial proposal, not a ranking factor or a guaranteed route into an answer.

What to do about it

  1. Make your name, address, phone number and hours identical on your site and your listings.
  2. Write one plain page per service, and put real customer answers in text.
  3. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity customer-style questions once a month and keep a record of the answers.

Questions

Should I create a separate version of my site for assistants?

Start with clear service information and useful answers on your existing site. Do not let a separate project delay correcting missing or inaccurate basics.

What if an assistant describes my business incorrectly?

Check your site and public listings for the same error and correct the sources you control. Record the answer so you can check it again later.

How PMI handles this

PMI sets up and runs Local + AI Search for $997 setup plus $597 a month, including llms.txt and schema, an AI-readable service and FAQ page, and monthly checks of what ChatGPT, Google AI and Perplexity say. There are no ranking guarantees.
